I received a box of the new Haagen-Dazs five ice cream to try out, thanks to Mom Central. The "Haagen-Dazs Five" may sound like a band of Swedish political prisoners or a Norwegian boy band, but in fact, it's an old fashioned take on ice cream. Each flavor contains only five ingredients. It's simplicity itself, and simply delicious.
I have to confess, I've been a Haagen-Dazs coffee addict since college. It's gotten me through many a heartache and many a stressful event. So when our waterheater went kaput last month, the only saving grace of the ordeal was the fact that I had the Haagen-Dazs five to help me weather the storm. Thank goodness it wasn't the freezer that broke down.
I tried the Mint first, which was a clean, refreshing, minty and delicious. The Brown Sugar is a carmelly-delight. The Ginger is a bit over-powering, but would be good as a little scoop on some apple pie, or as a side to another dessert. The Passion Fruit has a mild, citrus-y flavor that was clean and fresh.
Needless to say, I loved the Haagen-Dazs five, and even went out and bought the Coffee flavor on my own. It lived up to it's predecessors, and with about a third less fat than the original, you can't go wrong.
Haagen-Dazs graciously sent me some gift certificates to give out to my friends for a free pint of Haagen-Dazs Five. Want one? Just leave a comment before midnight, Sunday, April 19, with your favorite flavor of ice cream and I'll draw winners and post the names next week.
